Chesterfield FC are a professional football club that compete in League One of the English Football League. They play their games at the 10,500 capacity Proact Stadium having moved from their historic home of Saltergate in 2010. The club proactively implement good practise in order to keep utility consumption to a minimum and recycle waste at every opportunity.
The club had a direct relationship with a national waste supplier servicing the ground and amenities but felt they were paying too much for their collections.
Invoicing wasn’t clear as to how many collections were taking place each month so validating costs proved a difficult exercise
Chesterfield FC renewed their energy contracts on an annual basis via a direct relationship with an energy supplier for their electricity and gas contracts. Whilst the account was monitored potential savings at low points in the market weren’t always identified.

Blue Castle conducted a site survey for Waste Management prior to a tender in order to assess exactly how many containers were being charged for and to identify any improvements that could be made. Upon completing the audit Blue Castle presented a like for like quote having tendered locally and nationally. On producing a 25% saving Blue Castle were instructed to manage the waste contracts and continue to support the club each season.
Invoicing for waste was improved with each service and collection being clearly labelled allowing for the validation process to run smoothly.
Blue Castle provided a no obligation review of all Utility contracts at the ground and identified potential savings by monitoring the market across a period of 6 months for the club prior to their renewal. Savings of over 10% were achieved by changing the buying strategy of the club and the transfer of meters were handled by the dedicated Account Manager that looks after the club.
Consumption at the ground and market movements are now monitored closely to ensure that utility costs are kept to a minimum and that any opportunity in the markets is taken advantage of.
